The park was officially opened on the 30th of October 2010 and included a special event, entitled 'Tunes Amongst the Trees'. This was by attended by the Vice-Chancellor of Edith Cowan University (ECU) (at the time), Professor Kerry Cox, City of Stirling Councillors Elizabeth Re and Stephanie Proud, and other members of the Churchlands community.

The Reserve was officially opened by Professor Cox, who commented on the success of Churchlands Green and credited developers for utilising both the original amphitheatre and natural surroundings that characterised the former ECU campus.

“The Edith Cowan Reserve is an impressive feature of the development, and is certainly destined to become a focal point for the local community,” he said.
